MINERAL: Inesite
LOCATION: Wessels Mine, Kuruman, South Africa
Large Thumbnail of Inesite measuring 25 x 25 x 14 mm. It appears to be half of a sphere showing the inside radial arrangement of the individual crystals. Inesite is not a common mineral found in rock shops but is often sought out for its dramatic pink color. The prismatic crystals have a slanted termination which can be observed in this specimen.

This Crystalline Gold specimen is just at a full one inch tall! Beautifully proportioned, it is a work of art. We have called it the “Golden Walking Man.” It is a stunning thumbnail. The Eagles Nest Mine has been producing such crystals since 1982. The Mineralogical Record, Jan/Feb 2004 has a great article. This specimen is 22 mm by 12 mm by 4 mm.

MINERAL: Inesite and Datolite
LOCATION:Wessels Mine, Kuruman, South Africa
Inesite is a mineral that is not particularly common, but Wessels mine has produced some of the finest examples of this mineral found anywhere in the world. Small bladed crystals and groups of these crystals forming grape-like bunches of inesite were found during the mid 1970's and early 1980's. This thumbnail is a dark rose color and contains some white Datolite intergrowth. The specimen is 22x18x16mm and mounted in a Perky Box. No damage. Very Showy.

MINERAL: Pyromorphite
LOCATION: Bunker Hill Mine, Kellogg Idaho
Pyromorphite is a secondary mineral found in the oxidized zones of lead ore deposits. It forms in the hexagonal crystal structure. This specimen’s contains twelve clear hexagonal crystals ranging from 2 mm to 3 mm in diameter. The specimen is 20x15x13 mm overall. The color is orange-tan. Clear and bright, no damage. There is a great story of the discovery of the Bunker Hill Mine, in which a judge once ruled it was found by a jackass. A bit of history here and a good story with this specimen.

MINERAL: Anatase and Albite
LOCATION: Valdres Region, Norway
Anatase is one of the three mineral forms of titanium dioxide, the other two being brookite and rutile. It is always found as small, isolated and sharply developed crystals, and like rutile, a more commonly occurring modification of titanium dioxide, it crystallizes in the tetragonal system. This crystal is 1 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. Specimen is 21 x 8 x 14 mm overall. No damage. Excellent specimen.

MINERAL: Elbaite Tourmaline
LOCATION:Birgem De Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil
This Elbaite Tourmaline is naturally terminated and measures 27 mm by 4 mm. Color is a rose pink with no noticeable zoning. There is some internal fissures within the termination, but no external damage. This thumbnail shows the typical shield shape hexagonal crystalline structure typical of this mineral. A well formed crystal at a very good price.

MINERAL: Smithsonite

This a blue-green botryoidal masses of Smithsonite on base rock matrix typical of the spectacular color of this zinc oxide mineral from the famous Kelly Mine. The specimen is 27 mmx 15 mm x 15 mm. The Kelly Mine is a world famous source of Smithsonite. Of course it was originally a viable source of zinc, but we enjoy this ore as much as the value of the zinc it contains. Great color and form, with no damage here.
