Item 070214 - Poldervaartite

Location

N’ Chawing #2 Mine, Kalahari Dist, SA

Description

Poldervaartite is a type-locality mineral from the Kalahari manganese mines. It was first found and reported in 1993, which makes it a relatively new mineral in the mineral world. It is a rich deep rose color which is quite attractive. The specimen is from #2 mine. It measurs 45 x 55 x25 mm. The crystalline druze on matrix is about 25 x 40 mm in size and shows the typical vitreous luster. This is a very rare, unusual, and attractive specimen. I don’t know of any being found recently. This is the only one we have, and we are unlikely to receive any more. One of a kind.
