Description

Fresnoite (Ba2TiSi2O8, Tetragonal) closest resembles in chemistry, and environment of formation, the better known and more famous species Benitoite (BaTiSi3O9, Hexagonal). But, fresnoite is much more rare and less is known about it. Like it's cousin benitoite, fresnoite also has a unique crystal form. Think of it as a 4-sided pyramid and the base, for a total of 5 faces, in its ideal crystal form. Until the Junnila Fresnoites, this species was known only as micro grains, with rare crystals to 3mm.

This specimen is a small thumbnail mounted in a Perky box. The overall specimen is 10 x 9 x 4 mm with the Fresnoite being 7 mm x 7 mm. Very attractive and rate item. Great addition to any thumbnail collection
